Malik Dechambenoit

Malik Dechambenoit is a leading political analyst and mediator. Mr. Dechambenoit brings to clients extensive experience working with government agencies at the international, central and local levels in Africa.

Based in Johannesburg, Mr. Dechambenoit is a Partner and Co-Founder at Gumbi, Dechambenoit & Associates. Previously, Mr. Dechambenoit served in a Senior Political Advisory role at the United Nations from 2002 to 2009. He focused mainly on international peace-making efforts in Central and East Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi). In that capacity he served as a Senior Advisor to former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Ketumile Masire of Botswana.

Mr. Dechambenoit also served at United Nations headquarters in New York, where he planned, backstopped and managed some of the world’s largest Peacekeeping Operations. He participated in high-level Inter-State Mediation processes and worked closely with senior Government officials in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the African Union, the International Criminal Court as well as multi-lateral donors like the European Union and Commission, World Bank, IMF and African Development Bank. He worked closely with the World Bank and the European Commission on the formulation of a “Governance Compact” for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

More recently, Malik Dechambenoit has been advising Fortune 500 Companies and global Investment Funds on their Africa strategies.

Malik Dechambenoit holds a Bachelor’s degree in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a Masters degree in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick, UK. He also holds a Certificate in Spanish Language from the University of Salamanca in Spain and was awarded the National Defence Medal, with exceptional merit, by the French Government.
