Biographies

Madeleine K. Albright
Chair

Madeleine K. Albright is Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Dr. Albright uses her extensive experience in global affairs and renowned diplomatic skills to help clients in all regions of the world.  Dr. Albright is also Chair of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.
 
Dr. Albright was the 64th Secretary of State of the United States. In 1997, she was named the first female Secretary of State and became, at that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government.  As Secretary of State, Dr. Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade and business, labor, and environmental standards abroad.  From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Albright served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as a member of the President’s Cabinet.  From 1989 to 1992, she served as President of the Center for National Policy.  Previously she was a member of President Jimmy Carter’s National Security Council and White House staff from 1978 to 1981, and from 1976 to 1978, she served as Chief Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Edmund S. Muskie. 

Dr. Albright is the first Michael and Virginia Mortara Endowed Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.  She chairs both the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the Pew Global Attitudes Project and serves as president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. Dr. Albright co-chairs the UNDP’s Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Trustees for the Aspen Institute.  In 2009, Dr. Albright was asked by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Chair a Group of Experts on NATO’s New Strategic Concept.

Dr. Albright received a B.A. with Honors from Wellesley College, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Columbia University’s Department of Public Law and Government, as well as a Certificate from its Russian Institute.  Dr. Albright is the author of four New York Times best-sellers.   Her autobiography, Madam Secretary: A Memoir, was published in 2003. In 2006, Dr. Albright published The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God, and World Affairs. Memo to the President: How We Can Restore America's Reputation and Leadership was published in 2008. Her latest book, Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box was published in 2009.

Samuel R. Berger
Chair

Samuel R. Berger is Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. 

Mr. Berger works across nearly all of the firm’s engagements and regions, with a strong focus on Asia, Russia and Central Asia and the Middle East. 

From 1997-2001, Mr. Berger served as National Security Advisor to President Clinton.  In that capacity, he drove policy across a range of issues -- from the fight against terrorism to dealing with Iraq, from advancing the peace process in the Middle East to building our relations with India and China.

Mr. Berger served as Deputy National Security Advisor during President Clinton’s first term, as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to Governor Clinton during the 1992 presidential campaign, and as director of national security for the 1992 Clinton-Gore Transition.

Mr. Berger has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors.  Prior to his service in the Clinton Administration, Mr. Berger spent 16 years in the Washington law firm of Hogan & Hartson, where he headed the firm’s international group.  Earlier, Mr. Berger served as special assistant to former New York City Mayor John Lindsay, legislative assistant to former United States Senator Harold Hughes of Iowa and to Congressman Joseph Resnick of New York. Mr. Berger also served as deputy director of the policy planning staff, United States Department of State under Secretary Cyrus Vance from 1977 to 1980.

Mr. Berger is co-chairing two projects related to international security.  One on the Middle East Peace Process with the United States Institute of Peace and a Task Force on Pakistan and Afghanistan with the Council on Foreign Relations.  Mr. Berger is an active participant in the Aspen Institute’s U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue and he also serves on the International Advisory Council of the Brookings Doha Center.

Mr. Berger received his B.A. degree from Cornell University, and his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.

Suzanne A. George
Principal

Suzanne A. George is a Principal of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  Ms. George also serves as a member of the Operations Committee of Albright Capital Management. 

Ms. George draws on more than 15 years experience in strategic project management focusing on operations and resource allocation.  She manages an extensive portfolio, including market entry strategy, business development, contract negotiations, operational execution, and financial oversight.  Ms. George works to bring clients together and leverage them by broadening access to new forums and opinion leaders, generating the synergy necessary to maximize the strengths of the firm.
 
From 1997 to 2001, she served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Department of State with responsibility for management and coordination of travel and meetings in over 100 countries for Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.  Ms. George also served as a liaison to the White House and other Cabinet agencies for the Secretary of State.

From 1995 to 1997, Ms. George served as special assistant and assistant counsel to Ambassador Albright, then the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations.  Her responsibilities included legal and policy research, scheduling, and event planning and execution.

From 1990 to 1993, Ms. George worked for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs on a wide range of projects including development and fundraising, coordination of election monitoring missions, event management and legal research and writing.

Ms. George received a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School.

H.P. Goldfield
Vice Chair

H.P. Goldfield is Vice Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.

Mr. Goldfield is responsible for developing and executing Washington-based strategies in support of the business goals of Albright Stonebridge's international clients.  He also leads the Middle East and India practice groups of the company.

In his prior public sector service, Mr. Goldfield served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development.  This experience and others have provided Mr. Goldfield with extensive expertise on international trade and investment issues.

Mr. Goldfield was previously a Member of the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Export-Import Bank of the United States (ex-officio).  He also served as a member of the White House staff under President Ford and as Associate Counsel to President Reagan.  In addition, he served as a member of the National Finance Committee for the Bush-Quayle '88 and '92 Presidential campaigns and as Director of Congressional Liaison for Dole/Kemp '96.  He was a member of the National Finance Committee for the Bush-Cheney 2000 Presidential campaign and was active in the 2004 campaign.

Mr. Goldfield is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Middle East Institute, and a Member of the Board of Directors of Black and Veatch Holding company, the National Chamber Foundation Board and the Israel Policy Forum.

Mr. Goldfield graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1977 and holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Studies from Occidental College.  He was one of thirty-six individuals nationally awarded a CORO Foundation Fellowship in Public Affairs during 1973-1974.  Mr. Goldfield graduated cum laude from Connecticut College in 1973 with a B.A. in Asian Studies.

Anthony S. Harrington
President and CEO

Anthony S. Harrington is President and CEO of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  Ambassador Harrington also serves as a member of the Management Committee of Albright Capital Management. 

Previously, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Brazil.  He was nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support in a record 12 days. Brazil is the fifth largest country, representing about half of South America in population, territory and economy.

Ambassador Harrington carried out a mandate to upgrade the level of relations between the U.S. and Brazil and worked closely with both U.S. and Brazilian companies to strengthen business and economic ties.

In recognition of his accomplishments, the Government of Brazil conferred on Ambassador Harrington the Order of Rio Branco, Grand Cross.

Previously, Ambassador Harrington was a senior corporate partner at Hogan & Hartson, a 1,000-lawyer, international firm based in Washington, DC, with offices elsewhere in the United States, Western and Eastern Europe, Latin America and Asia.  He currently serves as international strategic advisor to the firm.

He was formerly Chairman of the President's Intelligence Oversight Board, Vice Chairman of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and a member of the congressionally-created Commission on the Roles and Capabilities of the U. S. Intelligence Community.

In addition, Mr. Harrington co-founded several telephony/technology firms, two of which were sold for over $1 billion, including Telecom*USA, the fourth largest U. S. long distance telephone company prior to its merger with MCI.  As a holding company investor, he was also instrumental in the creation of Mindspring, Intercall and PowerTel, sold in 2000 for over $7 billion.

Mr. Harrington is also a member of the managing board of Civitas Group, an affiliated security industry strategic advisory firm, a trustee of the Kenan Institute for Private Enterprise, and Co-Chair of the Advisory Council of the Brazil Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center.

Mr. Harrington graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and received his law degree from Duke University.

James C. O’Brien
Principal

James C. O’Brien is a Principal of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  Mr. O’Brien also serves as a member of the Management Committee of Albright Capital Management. 

Mr. O’Brien is a seasoned international negotiator, advising clients in transitional states around the world, including Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.  He works with clients on portfolios across a broad public-private spectrum, including consumer goods, health, entertainment, environment, and finance.  He has successfully helped clients locate strategic partners with access to markets, secure contracts, expand market share, and resolve regulatory and legal disputes.

From 2000 to 2001, Mr. O’Brien served in the Clinton Administration’s Department of State as special presidential envoy for the Balkans, with responsibility for U.S. diplomatic, economic, and security policy in the region.  From 1997 to 2000, he was Senior Adviser to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, as well as Principal Deputy Director of Policy Planning, charged with post-conflict planning and ensuring that the Department’s priorities and its $23 billion budget were aligned.

Mr. O’Brien was attorney-adviser at the Department of State from 1989 to 1997 and served as adviser to then United Nations Ambassador Albright from 1994 to 1997.  He developed, negotiated, and helped implement U.S foreign policy, including scientific, environmental, nonproliferation, and military decisions.

He participated in numerous high-profile international negotiations – leading deliberations during the Dayton Agreement, which ended the Bosnian conflict; guiding U.S. support for the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia; and finalizing agreements to control weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union.

Additionally, he negotiated agreements protecting intellectual property rights for scientific cooperation with China; promoted environmentally-sound international trade regulations for hazardous and recyclable materials; and worked to make public-private partnerships and corporate social responsibility a central element in American foreign policy. 

He earned a B.A. from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, a Master’s from the University of Pittsburgh, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Charles Prince
Senior Counselor

Chuck Prince is Senior Counselor to Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide, and to Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  

Mr. Prince is the Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citigroup Inc.

Prior to being Chairman and CEO of Citigroup, Mr. Prince was Chairman and CEO of Citi Markets & Banking, which provides corporations, governments, and institutional investors in more than 100 countries with corporate and investment banking, sales and trading, and transaction services.  Prior to that assignment, Mr. Prince was Chief Operating Officer of Citigroup.  Mr. Prince began his career in 1975 as an attorney at U.S. Steel Corporation and in 1979 joined Commercial Credit Company (a predecessor company to Citi).

Mr. Prince is a member of the Board of Directors of Johnson & Johnson, The Xerox Corporation and is a Trustee of The Brookings Institution.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Business Council.  Previously he also was co-chair of the New York City Partnership and Chairman of the Financial Services Forum, an association of 20 chief executive officers representing the largest and most diversified U.S. financial institutions.  Mr. Prince also served as co-chair (representing the United States) of the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue (TABD), which offers an effective framework for enhanced cooperation between the transatlantic business community and the governments of the European Union and United States.

A graduate of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Mr. Prince also holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations, a law degree from the University of Southern California, and a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University.

Warren Rudman
Chair

Warren Rudman is Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide. 

Previously, he served two terms in the U.S. Senate as a Republican representing New Hampshire, was Chairman of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board during the Clinton Administration and was Co-Chair of the U.S. Commission on National Security which called for the establishment of a department of homeland security just six months prior to the 9/11 attack.

While in the Senate, he served on the Senate Select Committee investigating arms transfers to Iran, as well as the Senate Appropriations, Intelligence, Governmental Affairs, Ethics Committees and on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.  Mr. Rudman previously served as Attorney General of the State of New Hampshire from 1970 to 1976.  In the corporate arena, Senator Rudman is Of Counsel to Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP and currently serves on the board of several funds of the Dreyfus Corporation and on the board of Boston Scientific.  He was Lead Director for Raytheon and served  on the boards of the Chubb Corporation and Allied Waste.  In addition, he has led major internal reviews on corporate governance and business practices for Fannie Mae, Boeing and the National Association of Securities Dealers, among others.

Senator Rudman co-founded the Concord Coalition, a non-profit focused on America’s fiscal situation.  He is a former member of the Board of the Council on Foreign Relations and is an honorary trustee of the Aspen Institute and Brookings.

Wendy R. Sherman
Vice Chair

Wendy R. Sherman is Vice Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  Ambassador Sherman also serves as a member of the Investment Committee of Albright Capital Management. 

Ambassador Sherman leverages her experience as a senior-level diplomat and her expertise in foreign relations to help clients locate partnership opportunities, gain competitive advantage in the marketplace, and resolve regulatory and political disputes throughout the world.  Her diverse client portfolio includes a particular focus on Asia, the Middle East, and Russia.

Ambassador Sherman served as Counselor and chief troubleshooter for the State Department, as well as Special Advisor to President Clinton and Policy Coordinator on North Korea.  From 1993 to 1996, under Secretary of State Warren Christopher, she was Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs.  Previously, she was a partner in the political and media consulting firm of Doak, Shrum, Harris and Sherman, and also served as director of EMILY’s List.

Ambassador Sherman was recently elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors of Oxfam America starting in November 2010.  She was also recently named to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Policy Board, a group that is tasked with providing the secretary of defense, deputy secretary and under secretary for policy with independent, informed advice and opinion concerning matters of defense policy.  In 2008, she was appointed by Congressional Leadership to serve on the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism. 

She also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Center for a New American Security and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group.  She is also a member of the US-India Strategic Dialogue and a regular participant of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue.  She is a recognized expert on national security issues and serves as a frequent analyst in major news outlets

Ambassador Sherman attended Smith College, and received a B.A. cum laude from Boston University and a Master’s in Social Work, Phi Kappa Phi, from the University of' Maryland.
Michael Warren
Principal

Michael Warren a Principal of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm that works with clients to seize opportunities, assess and manage risk and solve problems worldwide.  Albright Stonebridge Group is a significant shareholder of Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.  Mr. Warren also serves as a member of the Investment Committee of Albright Capital Management.

Prior to joining Albright Stonebridge, Mr. Warren led corporate development at Horne Engineering Services and served as President of Appfluent Technologies.

Mr. Warren served as Senior Advisor and economic cluster head for the White House Office of Presidential Personnel for the Obama Administration. He was a member of the Obama-Biden Transition Project's Agency Review Working Group helping oversee teh international trade and economics agencies.

Mr. Warren previously worked at McKinsey & Company, both as a strategic consultant in the technology and financial institutions industries and as a fellow of the McKinsey Global Institute, advising corporate leaders in the U.S. and Asian semiconductor industries.

Mr. Warren served within the White House as Executive Director of the President’s National Economic Council.  A Rhodes Scholar, Mr. Warren earned his degrees from Yale University and Oxford University.

Mr. Warren is on the Board of Directors of the District of Columbia Retirement Board, Civitas Group (a National and Homeland Security advisory firm), Virginia Tech’s Intellectual Property Board, Catalist (a data targeting company), and the National Child Research Center. He is a member of the Yale University President's Council on International Activities.
