Alan H. Fleischmann

Developing a Public-Private Perspective
Mr. Fleischmann provides extensive experience at the intersection of the private sector, public sector and civil society, guiding clients on strategic positioning and message and reputation development in a world where success is increasingly dependent on involvement from a diverse set of global stakeholders.

Alan H. Fleischmann is a Principal and Managing Board Member of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm, which is affiliated with Albright Capital Management, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. In this capacity, he leverages his multi-sector leadership experiences advising multinational corporations on their international business strategies.

Mr. Fleischmann has held leadership positions across the private, public and civil society sectors at the local, state, federal and international levels. He has advised corporate, individual, and political leaders on strategy, communications, messaging, negotiation, crisis management, positioning, diplomacy, branding, corporate citizenship and reputation in business and public policy development.

Throughout his career, Mr. Fleischmann has worked with a wide range of Fortune 500 corporations, their chief executives and top leadership in the domestic and global arenas.

Mr. Fleischmann is Co-Founder, Board Member, and Managing Director of ImagineNations Group, a partnership-based global network that provides young entrepreneurs with financial capital, technologies, business/leadership coaching and an on-line portal in emerging and frontier markets. These initiatives support the employment and entrepreneurship of young women and men, contribute to building thriving communities, and catalyze the creation of micro- and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

He was the chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Bank-ImagineNations Global Partnership for Youth Investment (GPYI) and is the 2008 winner of the Goodwin Prize for ImagineNations’ global work to promote entrepreneurship in the developing world. For several years, Mr. Fleischmann has also been Senior Vice President of Penn Schoen & Berland Associates (PSB Associates), the global strategic communications firm.

In September 2011, Mr. Fleischmann was appointed by the White House, the Secretary of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative to serve on the Industry Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC). With this appointment as Trade Advisor, Mr. Fleischmann’s role is to reflect the perspectives of the private sector. In May 2011, President Obama announced his appointment of Mr. Fleischmann to serve as a Member of the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. The Presidential Commission is charged with recognizing future leaders of the United States, and honoring them for their outstanding achievements. In 2010, Mr. Fleischmann was appointed by the Obama Administration to serve as a Delegate to the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship. He was also a Lead on the Obama Presidential Transition from 2008-2009, overseeing the agency review team for international financial institutions and regional development banks, and serving on the executive committee of the Green Bank Coalition.

Previously, Mr. Fleischmann was Chief of Staff to Maryland’s Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; a staff director of the U.S. Congress Committee on Foreign Affairs; Vice President of LATCORP (Latin American Trade Corporation), a private trade finance company; and served as a senior associate of JP Morgan Chase in the Americas.

He is also a graduate of the Chase Manhattan (J.P. Morgan Chase) Senior Management Training Program. During the historic period of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Mr. Fleischmann served as a policy aide in the German parliament, working for former German Chancellor Willy Brandt and his foundation for development and peace, while receiving a Bundestag Fellowship at the Friedrich Wilhelms Universität.

Mr. Fleischmann is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has served on the board of directors of the OffitBank, the World Security Institute (WSI), the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, the University of Maryland Medical System, Shock Trauma Emergency Medical Center, and the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS).

Mr. Fleischmann is an original member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and a member of the Robert F. Kennedy Center Leadership Council. Mr. Fleischmann serves on the board of directors of the Cal Ripken Foundation, the board of advisors of the James R. Jordan Foundation, and ASSET, the Alliance to Stop Slavery and End Trafficking. He was also a featured speaker at the 8th Annual Global Philanthropy Forum and at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He is a member of the Global Philanthropists Circle (GPC).

Mr. Fleischmann earned his M.A. as a Chase Scholar with honors from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he serves on its board of directors and chairs the Global Development Committee. He received a B.A. and B.S. with honors from American University, where he was the valedictorian, student body president, and the Charles W. Van Way Scholar.

He was the 2008 Alumnus of the Year, awarded by the School of International Service (SIS) of American University, where he serves as chairman of the board of the Dean’s Council. In 2011, Mr. Fleischmann was awarded the American University Cyrus A. Ansary Medal. He speaks Spanish and German.
