Gerald Curtis

Gerald Curtis is a Senior Director of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm. Based in Tokyo, he advises the firm’s clients on matters related to Japan and Asia.

Dr. Curtis is widely regarded by Japanese and foreigners alike as the world’s preeminent expert on Japan and has served as advisor and consultant to numerous American and Japanese corporations.

Dr. Curtis is the Burgess Professor of Political Science at Columbia University and concurrently serves as a Visiting Professor at Waseda University and Senior Research Fellow at the Tokyo Foundation. Dr. Curtis has received numerous honors, including the prestigious Japan Foundation Prize for his contributions to strengthening U.S.-Japan relations.

He was recently decorated by the Emperor of Japan with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, one of the highest honors the Japanese government awards to private citizens. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S.-Japan Foundation and a member of the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Dr. Curtis has authored commentaries in both English and Japanese, which appear frequently in the world press. His writings have been translated into Chinese, Korean, Thai, and several European languages. He also serves as a frequent public speaker and commentator in the Japanese media.

Dr. Curtis earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University and is fluent in Japanese.
