M.S. Verma
M.S. Verma is a Senior Director of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm. Based in New Delhi, he assists clients with issues pertaining to India. Among the most highly respected members of the Indian financial community, Mr. Verma is an expert in commercial banking at national and international levels, development banking, investment banking and asset management.
Mr. Verma is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Asset Reconstruction Company and Vice President of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
Previously, Mr. Verma served as the former Chairman of the State Bank of India, the country’s largest commercial bank. During his tenure there, the State Bank of India raised $4.23 billion in the international markets, and he led the restructuring exercise of the State Banks of Bhutan and Bahrain.
After four decades at the State Bank, Mr. Verma went on to serve as Honorary Advisor to the Reserve Bank of India, the country’s central bank and the regulatory Authority for banks and financial institutions.
After his tenure at the Reserve Bank of India, Mr. Verma served as Chairman of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), where his recommendations led to the further opening up of the Indian telecommunications market.
Mr. Verma serves on the Boards of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited, PTC India Limited, Visa Steel Limited, Visa Power Limited, and Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited.
Mr. Verma earned his B.A. in Arts and his M.A. in Philosophy from Patna University in Bihar, India. Mr. Verma speaks Hindi, Bengali and English.
