Isabel Pimenta, MD

Isabel Pimenta, MD, is a Senior Director with the Global Clinical Program in ASG’s Health practice. Dr. Pimenta leverages a unique combination of experience in direct patient care and health and economic development organization leadership to advise clients.

Prior to joining ASG, Dr. Pimenta was Associate Chief Medical Officer for the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital (BCCFH) Covid-19 Task Force, a partnership between the state of Maryland, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and the University of Maryland. There, she oversaw clinical operations and directly supervised clinical staff, developing and operationalizing clinical guidelines for Covid-19 therapeutics, vaccination, and testing centers. She also advised the task force’s governance and advisory board on its strategic direction, and served as liaison and technical advisor to the Maryland Department of Health.

Dr. Pimenta is also a hospitalist with Johns Hopkins Medicine, providing direct care to hospitalized patients, including ICU-level Covid-19 care. She has served on several system and hospital committees for population health, innovation, and quality improvement, and was interim Population Health Medical Director at Suburban Hospital in Maryland. She holds a faculty position at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and has conducted research on new imaging modalities and Covid-19.

Earlier, Dr. Pimenta worked for ten years as a Health Sector Specialist at the World Bank Group, helping lead economic development projects to support health care reform in developing countries, with focus on Latin America and South Asia. Her areas of focus were health system strengthening, capacity building, human resources, and governance.

She received her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, and her MD with high honors from the University of São Paulo Medical School. She completed her clinical training at the University of São Paulo and Johns Hopkins University, with residencies in radiology and internal medicine. Dr. Pimenta served on the board of March of Dimes and co-founded and served as executive director of Operation Smile in Brazil.

Dr. Pimenta is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
