João Sanches is a Senior Advisor at ASG, where he assists clients in Brazil, Latin America, and globally on government relations, market access, and regulatory issues.
Based in São Paulo, Mr. Sanches has extensive experience in the healthcare sector. Most recently, he led government relations and corporate communications for Novartis in Brazil. During his time at Novartis, Mr. Sanches was responsible for creating the company’s long-term strategies for policy, advocacy, and corporate communications in Brazil. He also led the establishment of cooperation agreements with public laboratories and government agencies focused on neglected tropical diseases, and implemented a new corporate social responsibility and diversity plan for Brazil.
Prior to his time at Novartis, Mr. Sanches spent more than 35 years at Merck & Co. During this period, he served in a variety of executive functions, including Country Manager for Chile; Access, Government Relations, and Strategic Alliances Director in Brazil; and Vaccines Director in Brazil.
Mr. Sanches is a Member of the Board of the Brazilian Competitiveness Movement, head of the AMCHAM healthcare working group, member of the Board of Sindusfarma, in addition to involvement in several other organizations.
He holds a degree in Computer Technology from Ibero-Americano University in São Paulo, and graduate certificates in Marketing, Finance, Strategic Planning, and Leadership from Wharton, Duke, and Columbia Universities.
