Luis Guillermo Plata

Luis Guillermo Plata, based in Bogotá, is a Senior Advisor with ASG’s Latin America practice, where he draws on his experience in the public and private sectors to help ASG clients with interest in Colombia.

Mr. Plata previously served as Colombia’s Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism. As Minister, he was responsible for exports, foreign investments, and tourism, as well as negotiating Colombia’s free trade agreements with the European Union, Canada, the European Free Trade Association, and Central America.

Prior to this, Mr. Plata served as CEO of Proexport (now ProColombia), a Colombian government agency responsible for boosting economic development through tourism and foreign direct investment. Mr. Plata began his career in government service as Colombia’s Trade Commissioner for Asia and was based in Taipei, Hong-Kong, and Tokyo. He also served, with honors, in the Colombian army.

In the private sector, Mr. Plata founded tech firm and worked for McKinsey & Co. as a consultant. He sits on multiple boards of major companies in Colombia.

He received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from the University of Arizona where he studied Business and Japanese. He is also a member of the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum.
