Vice President Anthony Nelson spoke with Politico on the White House's interest in strengthening economic ties with ASEAN countries. 

"[Southeast Asian nations] are really trying to remove themselves from the narrative of being a prize to be won over to one camp or the other. They want to minimize fallout from major power conflict."
